March Madness!

The ball is in your court.  We need your support!  We can’t afford the fouls; help us make those 3 point baskets!

  • AIDGwinnett has a goal to raise $30,000 in 30 days.  Are we mad?  Probably.
  • Can WE do it?  YES!  We urgently need your support to reach this goal.
  • Any amount that you can offer: $25, $50, $100 or more!
  • Please help us to reach a winning score and shoot your basket today!

We need your help to stay on top of our game.  AIDGwinnett was just awarded grant funding of $150,000 for services (our defense).  In order to effectively utilize this award, we need to raise ADDITIONAL funds totaling $30,000 (our offense).  The clock is ticking.
We are counting on the support of our community to remain a competitive team fighting HIV/AIDS in our backyard.  We need your help to win.

We are grateful to have received the grant award, but urgently need the additional resources to implement the funds to our program.

Join our MARCH MADNESS team!  Pass the ball to your friends and family.  Without you on our team, many of our programs could become compromised in the coming months.  AIDGwinnett works to deliver our mission daily.  Keep our programs from being sidelined!  We need your generous support today!

March is full of HOOP madness.  Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four….Let’s all unite as ONE.  We can win together by supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS today!

There are no TIMEOUTS from this disease and half time is over!

AIDGwinnett is proud to announce that we are recruiting and training youth in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Gwinnett County.  Youth interested in participating can call 678-990-6432.

TOGA stands for "Teaching Our Generation about AIDS" and accepts adolescents between the ages of 13 and 24 from all walks of life who want to get involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their communities.  AIDGwinnett promotes abstinence and postponing sex as the most effective ways of preventing the spread of HIV and other STD?s.  AIDGwinnett also teaches teens the importance of risk reduction and behavior changes as a tool to help prevent HIV infection.

Teen Peer Educator ProgramParticipants will receive training conducted by our experienced HIV Prevention Health Educators, and will learn about how HIV is transmitted, prevented and what they can do as peer educators to encourage teens to abstain from sex and unhealthy behaviors.  The training will include activities, workbooks, prizes, food and refreshments.  Participating youth will receive a certificate of completion and 6 or more volunteer hours with AIDGwinnett.  All are welcomed and youth are encouraged to bring friends.

With nearly half of all HIV infections being in people between the ages of 13 and 25 now?s the time for young adults to get involved in the fight against HIV infection in their age group.

Age 13 to 24?  Take the Internet Survey!
  • Do you like to use the Internet?
  • Do you have a cell phone?
  • Are you age 13 to 24?

If so, then we want to hear from you!

AIDGwinnett is conducting a survey of young adults to help us shape our online Internet outreach program.  Your opinions and suggestions will make a big difference!

Please take a quick moment to complete our questionnaire.  Just click here.

HIV Education Reaches Inmates at Local County Detention Centers
HIV Education Reaches Inmates at Local Detention CentersAIDGwinnett recently received funding from the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) to implement an HIV prevention education program called "VOICES" (Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer Sex).  The VOICES program seeks to reduce HIV infection among African-American women, 18 years and older by encouraging improved condom attitudes, negotiation skills and usage.

The VOICES program is a single, 60-minute session which includes viewing a culturally-sensitive video with realistic scenarios of HIV/STD risk, and then participating in a group discussion (including a condom demonstration).

LaShay Harvey (AIDGwinnett HIV Prevention Educator) is implementing this exciting new program in detention centers, jails and community settings throughout Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton counties.

To request a VOICES presentation or learn more about the program please contact LaShay Harvey at 678-990-6446 or HarveyL@aidgwinnett.org.

Innovative New "Network" Program Strengthens the Effectiveness of HIV Testing Outreach at AIDGwinnett

AIDGwinnett recently received a grant award from the Georgia Department of Human Resources to implement an HIV Testing outreach program aimed at African-American MSM (men who have sex with men) and their partners.  This new program is called "The Network."

As part of this program, volunteers can earn gift cards by talking with their friends, partners and other contacts and encouraging them to get a free HIV rapid test.

Certain qualifications and training requirements are necessary, and not all volunteers are eligible to earn gift certificates.

The "Network" is an innovative program  based on the "social networks" model of outreach, which is a proven approach for epidemiological investigations and outreach to persons with syphilis and other STDs.

I Stand With Magic JohnsonAs part of this new program, AIDGwinnett recently hosted an educational dinner forum for African-American men, sponsored by Abbot Laboratories.  The dinner included a presentation in the "I Stand With Magic" campaign, which aims to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and empowerment through a nationwide grassroots mobilization.
