Kickoff Party Draws a Crowd |
|
|
| Dear Greg, |
I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You" to all the volunteers who attended our 2007 AIDS Walk Kickoff Party this weekend.
We had a great time getting energized and motivated to accomplish our fundraising goal for the Walk this year ~ a goal of more than $40,000 in small and large donations!
We are already off to a good start in reaching our goal, but we still need your help.
If you could not make it to the party in person, we still hope you will be able to participate in the AIDS Walk.
Please take a moment to visit our web site to learn more about this important event. Your support of the AIDS Walk helps make our life-saving work possible!
Sincerely, Larry M. Lehman Executive Director, AIDGwinnett |

| AIDS Walk Kickoff Party Draws a Crowd |
On Saturday, September 22, 2007, the AIDGwinnett Team hosted a special AIDS Walk kickoff party and volunteer appreciation.
The party featured karaoke, light refreshments and the presentation of numerous awards to volunteers in appreciation of their hard work.
"It was awesome," explained one volunteer.
"It was worth it just to see the staff doing karaoke-- that was just hilarious," explained another volunteer. "But most of all, the party was good because it reminded us that the AIDS Walk is less than two weeks away."
"It's like we are shifting into turbo blast," she stated.
Shifting into "turbo blast" during these last, final few days before the AIDS Walk means different things to different people. A few examples:
- Calling (or emailing) all of your friends, neighbors and coworkers and asking them for a donation to sponsor you in the AIDS Walk
- Making calls to secure any uncollected pledges from your sponsors
- Updating your fundraising goal on the web site, to reflect your success
- Hosting one more (or two more) fundraising parties at your home or office
- Volunteering for one or two more weekends to collect donations from the general public at grocery store parking lots, restaurants, laundromats and neighborhoods
- Baking a few final batches of cookies, cakes or brownies and selling them to raise a few extra dollars
- . . . . or anything! Your success is limited only by your imagination and creativity.
Please take a moment to visit our web site to learn more about this important event and to get involved.
Your support of the AIDS Walk helps make our work possible! |

Finally: The 2007 Atlanta AIDS Walk!
|
| AIDGwinnett Attends African-American MSM Summit |
AIDGwinnett recently participated in a special educational conference for African-American gay and bisexual men held at the Loudermilk Center in downtown Atlanta.
Conference attendees learned about a new HIV testing outreach program organized by AIDGwinnett for African-American gay and bisexual men, called "The Network."
As part of this program, volunteers earn gift cards just by talking with their friends, partners and other contacts and encouraging them to get a free HIV rapid test.
Certain qualifications and training requirements are necessary, and not all volunteers are eligible to earn gift certificates. To check your eligibility, or to learn more about "The Network" please contact Mario Christopher Mann at 678-990-6431 or mannm@aidgwinnett.org |

Rocket Man on Refueling the AIDS Fights |
from Poz.Com In a statement published in The Guardian, singer and AIDS activist Sir Elton John urges UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to honor his and other leaders' promise to triple contributions to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. At the G8 summit in June, global leaders agreed to triple funding to ensure that HIV/AIDS treatment is available to all who need it by 2010. John, who started the Elton John AIDS Foundation 14 years ago, says that Brown's leadership in honoring this promise will challenge other countries-such as Canada, France Germany, Japan and the U.S.-to follow. "These decisions directly affect whether people live or die," John says. "And I urge the British government to take a lead in ensuring these promises are kept. Honor the pledge." . |
| Aids Alliance Now Accepting Applications for 2007-2008 Consumer Leadership Corps Training Program |
|

AIDS Alliance recently announced that they are accepting applications for the 2007-2008 Consumer Leadership Corps Training Program for both English and Spanish speakers. The focus of the program this year will be women living with HIV. The training program is open to women living with HIV who are receiving care through other parts of the Ryan White CARE Act.
The Consumer Leadership Corps Training Program is an exciting program that teaches consumers how to train other consumers in their own communities. Consumer Training Corps members come to Washington DC to participate in an intensive train-the-trainer learning experience that prepares and supports them as trainers and community leaders.
Applications are being accepted until Friday, October 19, 2007. If you would like more information about the program, including how to refer someone, please contact Linda H. Scruggs at 1-888-917-2437, ext. 15 for the training program for English speakers, Denice Cruz, ext. 19, for the training program for Spanish speakers. To download the 2007-2008 application materials in English or Spanish, visit the AIDS Alliance website at www.aids-alliance.org. |
